DIY Upcycled Pallet Crate (no power tools!)

Upcycled pallet crafts have exploded over the past couple of years – and it’s no wonder why! Pallets are a cheap – or often, free – source of strong, quality wood (remember, they are designed to hold large weights so are built to last). Their physical dimensions are really versatile; the long slabs can be deconstructed, joined together or shortened to create loads of things. In fact, with nothing more than some basic tools and a bit of elbow grease,…

Basket weave knitted cushion

A new challenge: the results

A few weeks back, I told the story of my first ever attempt at knitting (read it in this post). Well, I reached a bit of a crafting landmark today… I completed my first ever knitting project! I made a basic cushion cover, with a simple knit pattern on the back and a more complex basket weave design on the front. I used a speckled beige wool, finished off with a bright blue tweed covered button. What do you think?…

Bara Brith Earl Grey Recipe

Did you know that March 1st is Saint David’s Day, the patron saint of Wales? No? Neither did I. Well, until last weekend, when my partner (who just happens to be Welsh!) told me so. The Welsh are a fiercely patriotic nation, so regularly mark the occasion by wearing traditional Welsh costumes or symbols (think: daffodils, leeks, dragons). Schools often hold festivals called “Eisteddfodau” (don’t ask me how to pronounce that), where children sing songs, dance and celebrate their heritage….

Handmade Leather Luggage Tag

As I write this, I’m also busy packing for a bit of an impromptu city break. Tomorrow, I’ll be boarding a ferry and setting sail to the Netherlands! My partner and I only booked it two weeks ago – it all seems quite surreal that we’re going already! Anyway, a spontaneous holiday is a good excuse for me to get crafting (who am I kidding; everything is a good excuse for me to get crafting!). I thought I’d share with…

Crafting my way round the USA

If crafting is my biggest passion in life, I think that travel would be up there as my second. I love exploring new countries and cities, getting to know different cultures and learning about local traditions. In the past few months alone, I’ve visited Madrid, Paris and London, with short breaks also booked to Amsterdam, Brussels and the Southern coast of England over the next few months – woohoo! With this in mind, I was super excited to have been contacted…

Rustic Candle in a Mason Jar

Okay okay, I know this isn’t the most original DIY I’ve ever posted. The mason jar craze started a good few years ago and I’m hardly the first to turn one into a candle! However, I was in a cool little restaurant the other day (Bills in Nottingham, England, incase you were curious) and I just loved the rustic simplicity of their mason jar candle decor. So, naturally, I decided to replicate it for myself. I’m definitely planning on making…

Why DIY?

Why DIY?

I often get asked “why DIY?” or “why go to all that effort, when you could just buy it?“. Crafting and making things has always been important to me; from my childhood, through University and now. It’s no coincidence that I run a crafting blog! The purpose of this post is to share the main driving forces that compel me to the crafty life – hopefully it will inspire you to give it a go too. Make something unique The…

DIY Hanging Fabric Wall Art

Here in the UK, the spring is just around the corner! I love winter, but I’m definitely ready for this dreary grey weather to end. Pretty soon, the rain will stop and the clouds will clear, the sky will get brighter and the days warmer – well, that’s the theory anyway! The sun will also be rising earlier, which always makes getting out of bed that little bit easier! Roll on spring! 🙂 Since the spring season is all about…
