Okay, so the third and final Halloween cocktail (if you missed the first two, see them here and here) to share with you guys is… pumpkin spiced rum! Yep, that’s right, I took my favourite spirit and infused it with the flavours of autumn. It’s kinda similar to the pumpkin spiced smoothie I shared the other week, just a bit more alcoholic and a bit less healthy! 🙂
It’s really easy to customise this recipe to whatever flavours float your boat. Love ginger? Up the ratio! Not a fan of cinnamon? Leave it out (although I’ll be judging you hard). There’s still plenty of time to make a batch of this in time for you Halloween celebrations – learn how below.
Pumpkin spiced rum Halloween cocktail
- Dark rum
- Powdered ginger
- Ground cinnamon
- Ground cloves
- Ground allspice
- 1 apple
Pour approximately 500 ml of rum into an airtight container. Chop the apple into medium sized slices and add it to the container, along with 1/2 a teaspoon of each of the spices. Close the lid securely, give it a good shake and leave to infuse in a cool, dark cupboard. Give it a shake once or twice a day. After a few days, remove the apple and strain the rum through a coffee filter into a bottle. Serve a shot of the pumpkin spiced rum on the rocks with ginger beer and a squeeze of lime, then garnish with a cinnamon stick.
If you’re one of those weirdos who doesn’t like rum, you could also try this same recipe with tequila or whiskey (check out a similar recipe I tried last year). Either way, give this pumpkin spice infused recipe a go this season – you won’t regret it! – Mike.
P.S. If you’re wondering where the actual pumpkin is in this recipe, you’re not crazy – there is none. Why? Because pumpkin spice doesn’t actually contain any of the fruit at all, even the ubiquitous pumpkin spice latte contains none!
